FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a standard 7-piece TTRPG dice set?

A standard set includes a d4, d6, d8, d10, d10% (percentile), d12, and d20. These are essential for Dungeons & Dragons and most other d20-system games for determining everything from initiative to fire damage.

  • Why do I need "Sharp Edge" dice instead of factory-molded ones?

Sharp edge dice (usually resin) are hand-poured and polished. Unlike mass-produced tumbled dice, they maintain crisp edges, which many veterans believe offer superior randomness and a more premium, "jewelry-like" aesthetic.

  • Are gemstone dice balanced enough for fair play?

While no natural material is 100% mathematically perfect, high-quality gemstone dice are precision-cut and more than balanced enough for casual and home play. Their weight and unique mineral density provide a satisfying, authoritative roll.

  • How to Care for My Gemstone/Crystal Dice?

Gemstone and crystal dice are more delicate than resin dice and require careful handling and maintenance:Use a Soft Dice Tray: Never roll your gemstone dice directly onto hard wood, glass, or stone surfaces. You should always use a dice tray or dice tower lined with fabric, leather, or velvet to cushion the impact and prevent chipping or cracking.Store Separately: Store your gemstone dice in a soft-lined dice bag or storage box specifically for them. Avoid mixing them with other materials (especially metal or resin dice), as they can rub against each other and cause surface scratches or damage the edges.Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not expose your dice to extremely hot or cold environments, or subject them to drastic temperature changes, as this can cause internal stress and lead to cracks within the crystal.Cleaning: To clean, simply wipe them gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using any harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic cleaners, which can damage certain natural stones or the paint filling.

  • Are gemstone dice balanced enough for fair play?

  • How do I care for my gemstone dice?

Gemstones are natural minerals and can be brittle. We strongly recommend rolling them on a padded dice tray to prevent chipping and storing them in a padded individual-slotted case to avoid stones knocking against each other.

  • Why do my gemstone dice look different from the photo?

Each set is carved from natural earth-mined minerals. Inclusions, veining, and color gradients are natural signatures of the stone, ensuring your set is a one-of-a-kind artifact.

  • What is the difference between "Crystal" and "Glass" dice?

Many "Crystal" sets are made from K9 Crystal or Dichroic Glass, offering higher refractive indices (more sparkle) than standard resin. They are heavier than resin but lighter than metal, offering a "chilly" tactile feel that players love.

  • Will these resin dice yellow over time?

We use UV-resistant, high-grade epoxy resin to ensure long-term clarity. However, keeping them out of direct sunlight for extended periods will help maintain their "water-clear" look for years.

  • Is "Liquid Core" resin better than solid resin?

Liquid core dice feature a moving eye or glitter inside. While visually stunning for "Critical Success" moments, they require expert crafting to ensure the bubble doesn't affect the center of gravity.

  • Are resin dice durable?

Yes. Resin dice are durable enough for normal tabletop gameplay. Most resin dice can handle regular rolling without breaking. However, they may crack or chip if dropped onto hard surfaces like tile or concrete repeatedly. Compared to gemstone dice, resin dice are generally more impact-resistant and beginner-friendly.

  • Are gemstone dice balanced?

Most gemstone dice are reasonably balanced for casual gameplay. Because gemstone dice are handcrafted from natural materials, small weight variations may exist. However, these differences usually do not noticeably affect normal DND sessions. They are better suited for collectors and premium aesthetics rather than precision rolling.

  • Are metal dice too heavy?

Metal dice are significantly heavier than resin or acrylic dice. Many players enjoy the solid feel and premium sound of metal dice, but they can damage wooden tables or dice trays if rolled directly on hard surfaces. For most players, metal dice are best used with padded dice trays.

  • What size are standard DND dice?

Standard DND dice are usually around 16mm to 20mm in size, depending on the dice type. A typical d20 is often about 20mm tall, while smaller dice like d6 may be closer to 16mm. These sizes are designed to balance readability, rolling comfort, and portability.

  • What dice are best for beginners?

Resin or acrylic dice are usually the best choice for beginners. They are affordable, lightweight, durable, and widely available. Resin dice also come in many colorful designs without being too expensive. Most new DND players start with standard polyhedral resin dice sets.

  • Why are gemstone dice expensive?

Gemstone dice are expensive because they are made from natural stone and require extensive handcrafting. The cutting, polishing, engraving, and shaping process is time-consuming, and some materials like amethyst or obsidian are naturally costly. Their weight, rarity, and luxury appearance also increase their value.
